Why Tom Leppert
Not A Career Politician
On April 3rd, 2012, Texas Republicans will have the chance to end business as usual in Washington by electing a conservative businessman and proven job creator.
The career politicians and lawyers in Congress have failed the American people. There are 55 lawyers in the Senate. They can talk the talk, but they can't produce results because they don't know how to get the economy back on track.
Texans are sick and tired of professional candidates who run for self-interest and can provide voters with nothing more than soundbites.
For voters who want solutions, the clear choice for U.S. Senate in Texas is Tom Leppert.
Private Sector Conservative
Tom's not a professional candidate or career politician—he spent 25 years running businesses, balancing budgets, and creating jobs in the private sector.
Unlike his opponents, Tom hasn't spent his career jumping from one political office to the next or arguing court cases on behalf of the government.
Raised by a single mother who taught him the value of faith, hard-work and perseverance, Tom has lived the American Dream. Coming from humble beginnings, one of Tom's first jobs was as a janitor at a doctor's office. Tom went to community college, then worked his way through college and business school, becoming a successful businessman and eventually the mayor of Dallas.
Many candidates in this race like to talk about the Reagan Revolution, but Tom actually worked for President Ronald Reagan as a White House Fellow. He witnessed first-hand how small government, pro-growth, and pro-business policies lifted the nation out of malaise and gave America renewed opportunity.
After serving under President Reagan, Tom became a leader in the private sector, managing companies small to large, and eventually becoming the CEO of the largest general building construction company in America, The Turner Corporation.
As the CEO of Turner, Tom led the company to new heights. Under his leadership, the company's revenue doubled from $4 billion to $8 billion, and Tom helped create over 2,300 good-paying jobs, earning him the distinction of "CEO of the Year" by D Magazine in 2008.
Tom has also served as an advocate for the business community, board member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce.
With a business background no other candidate in this race comes close to matching, it's no surprise why hundreds of Texas business leaders and job creators are supporting Tom for U.S. Senate.
For decades, Tom has been running businesses, creating jobs, balancing budgets and making the tough decisions. He understands exactly what the private sector needs to create jobs and thrive.
Problem Solver
Tom brought his fresh business perspective to the Mayor's office in Dallas. He refocused the city's priorities to cutting crime, promoting economic growth, and instituting ethics reforms.
During Tom's four years in office, Washington's spending ballooned out-of-control, growing by 27%. But Tom made the tough calls and reined in Dallas' spending, which grew slower than the rate of inflation!
And even as the federal government grew larger, Tom cut the size of Dallas government, eliminating over 1,400 city positions and cutting or consolidated 8 city departments to save taxpayer money.
He slashed the city's crime rate by double digits by hiring more police officers -- without raising taxes. Instead, Tom cut other areas of city government.
Commonsense, conservative, business-friendly solutions. It's the reason why other mayors from across Texas have endorsed Tom. He's done it in Dallas, and he can do it in Washington.
Solutions, Not Soundbites
In the race for U.S. Senate, Tom has demonstrated he's the only candidate who is serious about getting our economy back on track.
Tom is the only candidate who has released a detailed, comprehensive, conservative plan to get the economy back on track and reform the broken culture in Washington.
WFAA radio host and conservative voice Mark Davis called Tom's plan "genius." The National Journal has noted that Tom's "specificity on jobs stands out."
Tom's plan is a blueprint that includes detailed solutions to:
- Overhaul our broken tax code to make it simpler, fairer and flatter.
- Repeal ObamaCare.
- Pass a strong balanced budget amendment.
- Reform the budgetary process.
- Save our entitlement programs.
- Introduce ethics reforms and truth in legislating.
You can read Tom's op-ed about his jobs plan, which was featured in the Houston Chronicle, and his op-ed in the National Review on his proposals to save and reform Social Security and Medicare.
Take the time to read Tom's plan, and visit this site to compare the "job plans" of Tom's opponents. Ask yourself which candidate actually understands the challenges our economy faces and can get us back on track. And think about which candidates are just parroting the talking points we've all heard before rather than offering any original ideas.
A Different Choice
Imagine an elected official who relies on results instead of rhetoric.
Tom will be leading the fight to empower the private sector and get the federal government out of the way of America's job creators so we can begin to restore American Exceptionalism and preserve the American Dream for our children and grandchildren.
On primary day, Texans won't have to choose between another career politician or lawyer—they'll get the chance to elect a true conservative businessman and proven job creator—a real leader who is more interested in offering real solutions than giving speeches.
