Letter To The Editor: Vote For Leppert

Vote for Leppert

Randy Funston, Wichita Falls

In President Ronald Reagan's second inaugural address he stated, "The time has come for a new American emancipation — a great national drive to tear down economic barriers and liberate the spirit of enterprise in the most distressed areas of our country. My friends, together we can do this, and do it we must, so help me God ... If not us, who? And if not now, when? It must be done by all of us going forward ..."

We are at a breaking point in America's history and either we unite as "One Nation Under God' and take control of our destiny or sit back and watch our freedoms become totally enslaved by established politicians who would sell their soul to retain power and control.

In recent months we have seen bills and laws passed and signed by both political parties that are stripping us of our rights and totally disregarding our Constitution.

We have witnessed scandals involving the GSA, Secret Service, IRS and elected leaders, yet we have no one holding them accountable! We need to ask ourselves, where is our burden for God and our nation. Have Christians become so self-indulgent and content with comfort and prosperity that we are no longer willing to take a stand against corruption?

If we are going to return our nation to the vision of our founding fathers it is our civic duty to elect leaders who share the same values.

Career politicians and appellate trial attorneys are the problem, not the solution. In saying this I am excited to join Dr. Robert Jeffress, Troy Aikman and many other conservatives across Texas who have endorsed Tom Leppert for U.S. Senate. I originally met Tom last November and was impressed with his background and detailed answers to direct questions on many social issues without the usual spin we hear from politicians.

Since then I have had the opportunity to meet with Tom on several other occasions and will personally assure you that he will use his business background and conservative Christian values to lead our nation back to the traditions that made America great.

I hope you will join me in this effort.

Dykes Urges Support For Leppert For Senate

David Dykes - Pastor, Green Acres Baptist Church, Founding Member of Pastors For George W. Bush (2000, 2004)

Tom Leppert is the man Texans should send to Washington to represent us in the Senate. We are privileged to have a man running for public office who models such godly leadership, moral character, and a tireless work ethic.

Tom is a retired businessman and formerly served as the mayor of Dallas. He has had tremendous success in both the private sector and as a servant in public office. The most important reason why I personally support Tom is because he is a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and his faith leads him to be a tremendous servant leader in his community.

Tom grew up in a blue-collar neighborhood, raised by a single mother. A hard worker, Tom paid his way through junior college by washing dishes until he received a scholarship offer at a prestigious college.

He went on to become a successful business leader, creating thousands of jobs. As mayor, Tom understood his role was to better the lives of Dallas residents. Facing high crime rates, Tom fought for hiring new police officers in efforts to make Dallas a safer place to live and work. He pursued tough ethics reforms that restored accountability in local government.

His faith was evident as he carried out his duties as mayor. His first official act was to reinstate prayer before every City Council meeting. Tom’s faith has formed him into a man of steadfast conviction, uncompromising on his values.

While I don’t believe churches should endorse candidates, I am perfectly comfortable supporting candidates as an individual. I continue to publically support U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert and I have endorsed other local elected officials. I was among the pastors supporting President Bush in his election. Tom Leppert has my unwavering support because he is a Christian leader who will bring moral, competent leadership to Washington.

Press Release: Response To Obama's New Fracking Regulations

Friday, May 04, 2012 | Comments () | Permalink

DALLAS, Texas, May 4, 2012 – In response to the Obama Administration’s new regulations on hydraulic fracturing, U.S. Senate candidate and conservative businessman Tom Leppert released the following statement:

“The Obama administration has overstepped its bounds once again by imposing new regulations on hydraulic fracturing. The very same type of regulations that should be determined or overseen by states – not by the federal government.

“This is yet another example of the Obama administration playing election year politics by appeasing its fringe environmentalist base.

“From the new regulations on fracking to blocking the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to imposing an offshore drilling moratorium, this administration has done everything in its power to disincentivize energy production.

“Fracking has already provided a boost to shale gas drilling, helping inch the United States towards energy independence.

“And perhaps most importantly, fracking is a time-tested and safe technology. The MIT Energy Initiative recently released a report on hydraulic fracturing and concluded that, “the fracturing process itself poses minimal risk to the shallow groundwater zones that may  exist in the upper portion of the wellbore.

“Last year, I released a comprehensive jobs plan that offered solutions to unleash America’s domestic energy resources and allow states to determine the regulations that best suit their needs.

“America has tremendous energy resources – but we need a President and leaders in Washington who are ready to fully realize that potential and put our national security and economic interests first.”

Texas Mayors Endorse Tom

Wednesday, May 02, 2012 | Comments () | Permalink

Today, 23 current and former Texas mayors announced or reaffirmed their endorsement of Tom Leppert for U.S. Senate.

The endorsers include the mayors of Arlington, Corpus Christi, Waco, McKinney, Frisco, Denton, Sugar Land, Georgetown, Farmers Branch, Southlake, Highland Village, Heath, and Parker, and the former mayors of Arlington, Wichita Falls, Waco, Richardson, Nacogdoches, Farmers Branch, White Oak, Melissa and Westworth Village.

In total, Mayors for Leppert represent 19 cities and over 1.6 million Texans.

Before being elected mayor of Dallas in 2007, Leppert spent three decades in the private sector, running businesses in five different industries and creating thousands of good-paying jobs.

As mayor, Tom brought in the skills and experience he acquired as a conservative businessman. Tom fought against tax increases, slashed the civilian workforce by 20% and eliminated or consolidated nearly one-third of the city’s departments.

By his last year in office, the Dallas-Fort Worth area had the highest job growth rate of any major metropolitan area in America, fueled in large part by the sustained economic growth of Dallas.

Tom’s fiscal stewardship as mayor of Dallas earned him the distinction of being named “CEO of the Year” in 2008 by D Magazine, and the Texas Association of Business Dallas Chapter’s “Distinguished Business Leader of the Year” in 2011.

Mayors across Texas support Leppert because they appreciate his proven and successful record of making the tough calls in both the private sector and the public sector.

“Tom Leppert is a conservative businessman who has the experience necessary to implement real change in Washington. Tom understands that decisions are best made by the communities at the local level and not by an ever-growing federal government. Tom will lead the fight in Washington to instill fiscal discipline and get our economy headed in the right direction.”

The Hon. Jim Bush - Mayor, City of Waco

“Washington is in need of proven problem solvers like Tom Leppert. He's demonstrated that he can produce conservative results in both the private and public sectors, and he is the candidate who can truly reduce the size of government – just like he did in Dallas. Tom is the clear choice for U.S. Senate.”

The Hon. Lanham Lyne - Texas House of Representatives, District 69, Former Mayor, City of Wichita Falls

"Tom Leppert's leadership would bring a new dynamic business leadership to the Senate. Tom is a problem solver. From growing businesses and creating thousands of jobs in the private sector to implementing a pro-growth and pro-business agenda as mayor of Dallas, Tom has proven record of leadership and success that no other candidate can match."

The Hon. Joe Adame - Mayor, City of Corpus Christi

"Tom brought in a much-needed commonsense business approach to the mayor's office, and the growth and successes of Dallas under his leadership is nothing short of impressive. We need a leader like Tom who has a bold, conservative plan to revive our nation's stagnant economy, and has the experience and proven record to put that plan into action."

The Hon. Robert Cluck - Mayor, City of Arlington

“Tom is first and foremost a business leader who has actually balanced budgets, created jobs, and signed both sides of a paycheck.  Tom proved how beneficial his business experience was as mayor of Dallas, and now he’s ready to produce conservative results as a U.S. Senator. The Senate desperately needs more businessmen like Tom who truly understand how the economy works and have a real plan to fix it.”

The Hon. Virginia Dupuy - Former Mayor, City of Waco

“Based on his fine leadership as the Mayor of Dallas I believe that Tom has the dedication, honesty and civility to do a wonderful job as our next United States Senator."

The Hon. George Garver - Mayor, City of Georgetown

"Tom is my candidate because I think his plan can solve our problems. While others simply talk about the problems facing our nation, Tom is the only candidate with a plan to solve  them. Texas will benefit from having a conservative, solutions-driven leader like Tom in Washington"

The Hon. A.L. Mangham - Former Mayor, City of  Nacogdoches

“I am proudly endorsing Tom for U.S. Senate. He is a fellow businessman who has first-hand knowledge of how the economy works and first-hand experience creating thousands of jobs. Tom has clearly taken the initiative in this race by releasing an ambitious and detailed jobs plan, and Tom’s leadership, business skills, and conservative ideas clearly make him the only candidate in this race who can truly make a difference in the Senate.”

The Hon. Tim Vaughn - Former Mayor, City of White Oak
